The intention of NWPER is to bring together researchers and Ph.D. students in the fields of programming and software development tools and techniques. NWPER intends to be an open forum with ample time set aside for panels, sub workshops and/or discussions. At NWPER'2004 there will be one or more discussants appointed for each full paper in order to provoke discussion. The workshop intends to function as a platform for establishing co-operative research projects between the participants.

NWPER addresses research on programming and software development tools and techniques in a broad sense, including tools, methods and languages for programming and software development, as well as user interfaces for, architectures for and collaboration support within programming and software development environments.

The previous workshops took place in Lund (1983), Roskilde (1986), Linkøping (1989), Trondheim (1990), Tampere (1992), Lund (1994), Aalborg (1996), Ronneby (1998), Lillehammar (2000) and Copenhagen (2002). Most of the participants at earlier NWPER's were from the Nordic and Baltic countries, but everyone is welcome!

This workshop is co-located together with the Nordic Workshop on UML that will take place during August 19-20. See http://crest.abo.fi/nwuml04

Paper Submissions

Submit full papers (at most 6000) or short papers (1500-3000 words are recommended) by email to apada@abo.fi before May 16 as PDF. Papers should be formatted using the Springer LNCS style: http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html

Ph.D. students are encouraged to submit papers about their ongoing or planned research. Indicate in the email whether you are a research student or not. All submitted papers will be reviewed by three members of the program committee (see below).

All accepted papers will be published as a university technical report with ISBN. Also, we plan to publish as a Special Issue of the Nordic Journal of Computing of specially invited journal-length papers which elaborate on selected research results presented at the workshop. Similar Special Issues were published after the workshops in 1996, 1998, and 2000.

A pdf with the final version of all accepted papers can be found here.

Demonstrations, Panels and Interactive Workshops

NWPER'2004 will include demonstrations and may include one or more panel sessions and sub workshops. In particular, the purpose of the sub workshops is to allow the participants to discuss topics of mutual interest in smaller groups. The workshops may also comprise presentations of relevant short papers. All proposals go by email to iporres@abo.fi.
